Description
Kalyna (guelder-rose in English) is a deciduous shrub that has its roots burrowed deep within the culture of Ukraine.
As a symbol, it is found throughout Eastern Europe, but in Ukraine, it permeates all facets of culture, from songs and stories to medicine and clothing.
This plant, with its white flowers and bright red berries, represents, among other things, home, family, love, and healing.
The bird in this piece, the common nightingale, is equally important in Ukrainian folklore and seen by many as the national animal of Ukraine.
